Hi All, I'm beginning to build my 2009 Teaching Calendar and "Here's What's on the Slate to Date"!
Tom is pushing for an EAST COAST Clinc
Hey, anyone out there interested in putting together 16 folks for an East Coast Weekend Clinic? Let me know! Hi Brent,I just purchased your "Forward Stroke Clinic" video and absolutely love it.
I have learned so much watching it, and would love to follow up with a clinic, but I notice from past year's schedules that none of your clinics are on the East Coast. Do you plan on any clinics for 2009 in the NY - NJ area? If not, are there any clinics that you would recommend in this area?
In addition to improving my forward stroke, I would like to learn the technique for a wing paddle.
Thank you,
Tom
Thanks for your kind words about my film Tom. I hope it helps you to enjoy the sport that has given so much to me...
Regarding East Coast Clinics, I do not have anything set up out that way. The issue continues to be the ability to cover costs of getting there. If you or your Friends, Clubs or Paddling Shops, would like me to do a Clinic, out that way, feel free to contact me and maybe we can work out the details.
As far as clinics in your area, all I can suggest is to look up Kayak Symposiums in your area and go attend them. Maybe that will generate some more specific info. Cheers and thanks again for your kind words, brent reitz

“A Kayaking Forward Stroke CHRISTMAS Testimonial and Inspriation”
Wednesday, December 17, 2008
Coach Reitz,
Thank you for your wonderful & interesting response to my email, and a hearty congratulations on your recent paddling accomplishments. Please feel free to use my email, as a testimony to your outstanding video, "The Forward Stroke Clinic", which has helped me so much.
Ed "Fast Eddy" Earle
Dear Brent,
Sometime in 1998, I bought your video, "The Forward Stroke Clinic". It has been the foundation for my recreational and racing paddling. In the beginning, I reviewed the video, which I firmly believe is the best on the market, over and over, always trying to copy your fluid stroke, and to achieve perfection. I firmly believe that your teachings, are the secret to my success, in my racing endeavors.
Now I'm smart enough to realize, that a video alone cannot spell success, but that I must bring a certain level of conditioning to the races, and also have the proper equipment to to compete, being the right kayak & paddle.
At the time I bought your video, I was using a flat blade paddle and was a little nervous about graduating to a wing paddle, which could be tricky. Your video helped me develope such a good (make it very good) stroke, that I was able to transition to a wing paddle, and was comfortable and proficient within ten minutes of first using it.
Brent, do you remember my emails whereby I refered to you as "Coach"? Well, I have never forgotten all the help & tips that you passed on to me, and that I put to good use.
This year, 2008, at 70 years of age, I entered 6 races and won them ALL.
In some of the races, I was in the Senior Division, BUT, still beat all the times, for the Men's Open Division for Sea kayaks, in the same race. Some people have asked me," How do you do it? " I tell them it's Training, Paddling Technique and Equipment, especially at 70 years.
Most of all, I give credit to the great foundation, that your "Forward Stroke" instructional video, has given to me .
Thank you, Brent (Coach) after all these years.
Merry Christmas to you & your family.
Ed Earle
Coming Up Sept 28th! Brent Reitz Forward Stroke Kayaking Clinic: Half Moon Bay
Thursday, September 25, 2008
SEPTEMBER 28, 2008
From novice to expert, touring paddler to sprint racer, everyone can improve upon their forward stroke! This popular clinic is taught by Brent Reitz, past national wildwater and marathon champion, and veteran of the U.S. Olympic sprint kayak program. This is the premiere clinic that brings the techniques of the elite Olympic kayaker to the recreational paddler!
The forward stroke is the most used, but least taught, and perhaps most poorly understood stroke in kayaking. This hands-on course introduces paddlers to the finer details of the kayak forward stroke. Brent discusses stroke mechanics, body posture, boat dynamics, and more. We will video and critique your stroke during the class! Most of the day is spent on the water. You will learn to paddle more efficiently, avoid injury, and avoid bad habits that cause further injury. Learn proper technique from the very beginning, or tune-up your skills to gain more power per stroke. Remember, it's not pure strength, but good technique that's important!
Prerequisites: Recent paddling experience is strongly recommended. Participants should be comfortable with basic strokes and maneuvers, as instruction will be limited to improving the forward stroke.
For more info or to sign up, go to:
http://www.calkayak.com/infopop.cfm?classID=258
Space is limited to 8 participants only!!!

Another Great R.E.I. Kayaking Clinic in Mountain Vew, Ca
Thursday, July 31, 2008
Thank you to all the R.E.I. Staff and Students for a GREAT "Brent Reitz Forward Stroke Clinic" last night! We had 30+ Students show-up last night in Mountain View's R.E.I. Store. The Class was held in-and-among all the Kayak Gear, (Just to make me feel "at home"), and I felt it went extremely well. Thanks for all the attention and great questions from you students! I want to take a moment to thank R.E.I. for supporting Adventure Education. Sales and Training are a perfect marriage. Folks need to own the equipment to have Fun, however, it's clear that folks have MORE FUN when they understand how to use it. Being comfortable while performing your passion, makes all the difference. Knowledge and Experience lead to that Level of Comfort, and ultimately, All That FUN!. My Hat's Off to R.E.I. for taking a leading role in exposing Adventure Education to The Public!
NOTE: Many of you asked about taking my Full-Day Class that's held On-The-Water, in addition to the classroom-session. Currently I have not scheduled the next class, but I plan to soon. Please keep an eye on this website for information about future classes. If you are interested in attending an ON The WATER CLASS, please drop me an email for my consideration related to setting these next classes up.
To Close, I really enjoy being able to share what I know about how best to move a boat across the water with ALL of you paddlers, (or potential-paddlers), out there! Thank you for the opportunity to do so. Cheers, brent reitz

Time for a New Pony!

Hi All: Just decided to post my first "For Sale" note here on my Website:
I have an Epic V-10-"L" for sale, (that's a surfski for those of you wondering...). It's the "Ultra" Model, so it's the lightest one Epic makes that us mere-mortals can afford, and she is in excellent condition. The "L" stands for "Low Volume", which simply means it's designed for the Average Sized to the more Petite-Sized Paddler. The Original V-10 was clearly designed for the "Full Figured Man", and us normal sized dudes (150 - 180 pounders) can't really sink the original one the water deep enough, at least that's my opinion. The "L" however delivers nicely in this regard. The other reason I picked the "L" over the original, is that the seat is moved forward, and I always like that in a Surfing-Type boat. I've owned her a tad over a year (New last May), and have Had A Blast! She is white with a red stripe, has adjustable foot pedals, toe straps, leash, bungee's, and all that "other" nice stuff! She is competition weight, very light, probably around 26 lbs or less, but I have not actually taken a scale to her...never figured a need to. She's plenty light...When I figure out how to post a photo on this site, I will. I've been asking $2,850.00 to date on the other surfski websites, but have decided to drop the price to $2700. This price includes a brand new canvas boat bag as well. So, if you are interested, call my cell at 831 277 7897. Cheers, brent
