Hi Brent,

I am Mary Ann (Wiest) Antonson's daughter. My family came to visit your Dad and Donna the summer of 2008. My aunt Jeanne forwarded Donna's email about your surgery today. My thoughts and prayers are with you today and throughout…

An Exercise in Longevity…

Saturday, February 20, 2010
I have some news that's really not kayak related. Well, actually, maybe it is, as it's been the key ingredient in why I have not taken a starting line in over a year. As I watch the Winter Olympics, (which as I LOVE!), I'm counting down the few days until a key event in my life. On 2/24/10, I will be going into Stanford Hospital to have open-heart surgery. I will have an operation to deal with an Aorta that's simply not behaving. I am very confident in the ability of my surgeon Dr Scott Mitchell, who's goal, by his own unsolicited words, were "Brent I want to get you back On The Water as soon as I can"...that's the guy I want doing my work! I really believe he's going to succeed.

By now, many of my friends have found out about the surgery and have been sending me all kinds of good-wishes. I can't thank you ALL enough, nor can I express how great you make me feel. Good Vibes are Healing Vibes, and I'll not be bashful about taking as many as I can get! Thanks again.

I hope to keep this website updated with my progress. We'll see how that goes. Of course the recovery will be a long one. My Cardiologist, Dr David Liang has told me to plan on 3-Months, but both he and I hope it to be sooner. I'm hoping to be back to some level of normal-life in Two!

Consequently, and with great regret, I've had to cancel my Canoecopia and Rutabaga teaching stints in Wisconsin this summer. However sometime after Mid June - or First of July, I'm expecting to be ready, (and Chomping At the Bit), to get out there teaching again! Stay in touch if you'd like to get into a class Mid-Summer, as I'm definitely going to be ready to go!

Okay, that's it for now. Thanks again for all the great energy, brent

a BIG THANK-YOU to Bellingham Washington Surfski Paddlers!

Saturday, September 19, 2009
Wow, I had a great clinic up in Bellingham WA this past weekend ,(9/13/09), and I really wanted to extend a special note of thanks to the Men and Women that attended.

I've already been invited back for Spring Training! I look forward to passing on how best move a boat (in this case "how Quickly" to move a boat), across the water up there again soon!

Those of you who have taken my Clinic or have viewed my Film, know that I feel that a Strong Forward Stroke consists of the same combination of movements regardless of whether or not you are in a Touring Boat or Race Boat. This ended up being a specilized clinic, as it consisted of 100% Surfski Racers! I had a blast helping to feed their "Hungry Need for Speed", as well has had a really fun time doing so! Here's an email that DJ sent out descriping his experience at our clinic. (See below)

Cheers, brent

Feedback from Brent Reitz Clinic:

Today about ten on us took part in a paddling clinic coached by Brent Reitz. After reflecting on the clinic, I was VERY impressed with the class. As a paddler who formerly was a top US slalom racer (though I did not always feel like that while watching video today) for about a decade, I have worked with many national and international coaches. I would say Brent did a first class job articulating, selling, and teaching the forward stroke. Making the transition to a wing blade and onto the surf ski has been fun, but like many of you with different paddling backgrounds, I have not always had a clear concept of an efficient stroke for a ten-twenty-plus mile paddle/race. Brent did a GREAT job laying the foundation, working on improving common bad habits, and articulating some of the more subtle aspects of the paddlestroke. Talk has already started about getting him back up for a clinic in early spring for a touch up session, and hey, maybe a big wave trip to his neck of the woods would be worthwhile (maybe a Wildside “ Big Wave Clinic", US Champs Road Trip? hey, let me dream). I highly recommend Brent and big thanks to LG for being the organizer and video operator!

Iris Had a Great Class and told me I could share her feedback…

Thursday, September 10, 2009
Hi Brent,

thank you again for a great clinic yesterday! I went paddling out of Sea Trek today to practice, - it was great to feel the difference in my stroke and speed, never mind the power I had, dealing with the wind and current. Rotation comes easily it seems, chicken wings are getting there, the catch weeeelll, it needs some work. The elbow push was so much easier today. The exit - well I remembered that too at some point... . Too much fun - I am obsessed.

Steve told me about 'The Regatta' in October. Now that sounds like a lot of fun!!!

Happy paddling ~~~ iris

Brent will be doing the Commentary at The U.S. Surfski National Champs in San Francisco Bay

Friday, August 21, 2009
How to get LIVE Play-By-Play of the U.S.Surfski National Championships Aug 22 & 23, 2009:

If you go to http://www.surfski.info you’ll end up on a home page that will be all set up for the race.

The race is called the U.S. Surfski National Championships. It’s in San Francisco Bay. The short course will begin @ 10 am and the REAL RACE will begin at between 1 pm and 2 pm Pacific Time. It’s about 16 Miles Long! Both Men and Women are competing in their respective classes. Racers are here from all around The Globe to enjoy California Paddling and to go Head-to-Head with the Fastest in the World!

The format you’ll see on the screen will be basically like the “Live Chat” like you get from websites that you are asking questions of. I don’t think there will be any video. There will be some photos every now an again. Basically, I’ll be giving commentary to the website-moderator via cell phone from out on The Bay; he’ll in turn type what I’m saying; it will all come out in Real Time! The race will be about 2+ hours!

See ya on THE WEB...All Around The World! Cheers, brent

Only ONE MORE DAY TO SIGN-UP, So what are you waiting for? Hope to see you On The Water in Half Moon Bay this Sunday, brent

Next Clinic set for July 26 in Half Moon Bay, Ca

Monday, July 13, 2009
Hey All: Come On Over to Half Moon Bay and let's have a GREAT Forward-Strok'n Day! Yep, July 26 @ 9 am we will hit the water for some "quality paddle-time". Come join seven other folks, (The maximum I allow per class size, this to ensure plenty of one-on-one face-time!), and learn how to increase your power and reduce fatigue & injury...What more could a Happy-Paddler ask for! ....I know more you could ask for...and in my class you are going to Get It...VIDEO of (you guessed it...) YOU! I'm absolutely sure the power of self-analysis by virtue of understanding the required key body movements and comparing them to what you see on The TV...(that would be you), makes the single fastest way to change a movement. Once you see it modeled, and then see what you need to do to change your own current muscle memory...it can really be quick & easy to gain that knowledge.

If you are interested, you can visit California Canoe and Kayak's website at http://www.calkayak.com and sign up from there. If you have questions about the class, feel free to email me .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and I'll be happy to answer. Cheers and hope to see you the end of the month! Happy Paddling, brent reitz
